Big Shot

Dit spel (Big Shot, Gotham G-130) is vervaardigd door de Gotham Pressed Steel Corporation (New York, U.S.A.); dit bedrijf is in 1930 in New York opgericht en bestaat niet meer sinds 1991. Het omhulsel is van metaal en de bodem is van karton. Het spel is tussen 1936 – 1947 geproduceerd en van de Big Shot zijn 11 verschillende versies gemaakt, de eerste in 1930 (U.S. Patent nos. 2058202-2083108). Het zwarte schietmechaniek rechtsonder werkt goed net als het rode schietmechaniek midden onderin het bord. Er is duidelijk mee gespeeld, maar voor zo’n oud spel ziet het er nog best goed uit. Er staan geen spelregels op de achterkant van dit bord. Hieronder een foto van een soortgelijk spel waar ze wel op staan vermeld:

1. This fascinating game can be played by any number of players.

2. Place the board on a level table, and put in a slanting position by inserting wooden peg in the hole on reverse side.

3. Place the ten marbles above the shooter in the lower right hand corner, putting the odd colored marble on top.

4. Close gates to side pockets and turn spinning arrows to “0”. The board is now ready to start the game.

5. Each player shoots ten marbles in succession.

6. If a marble comes to rest in the hole marked “Return Out Balls” this marble and all others at that time located in the space marked “Out Balls” must be returned and used for additional shots.

7. When a marble comes to rest in “Gun”, the “Gun” is shot by  pulling trigger. The “Big Shot” is the most important shot and the only way of hitting the Bull’s Eye to score 5,000.

8. The odd colored marble scores double. It is important to  shoot this marble first. If it is shot later in the game, another marble may prevent the scoring of 10,000.

9. The gates to side pockets open automatically when a marble passes between brackets. They also close automatically after each scoring in side pockets.

10. When all ten marbles have come to rest, the score is to be added. This includes the score shown, at that time, by the two spinning arrows.

11. The player who obtains the highest score is the winner.

Er behoren dus 9 knikkers van eenzelfde kleur bij het spel en  één knikker met een afwijkende kleur, de zogenaamde “odd colored marble”. “The Gun” verwijst naar het kleine rode schietmechaniek midden onder op het spel.
